Our school representatives are two of the main drivers for pupil voice within our school, leading the senior student leadership team and chairing the pupil council. They meet weekly with the headteacher to discuss school issues, provide a link to the pupil council and take a central role in planning school improvement, activity and events.
This year's school representatives are Katie Harris and Jennifer Taylor.
Katie Harris
As a Senior Representative, I feel privileged and proud to be part of the student leadership team at Dalbeattie High School. I have wanted this role since I was a junior school pupil, looking up to the senior school reps as role models, who I admired for making positive changes within the school.
This role provides a valuable opportunity for me to develop leadership skills such as; leading a team, representing my peers, coordinating with school staff, manage responsibilities, resolve conflicts, and inspire others. It is a great platform to make an important impact on my school community. Whether it’s through exciting new projects, improving school policies, or organizing events. This sense of contribution is very fulfilling. The role offers me the chance to develop essential skills, which are incredibly useful in all aspects of life, and I will carry these skills forward when I progress onto higher education next year. I aim to bring fresh ideas, encourage collaboration, and create a supportive atmosphere where every student has a positive relationship with school
Jennifer Taylor
The role of Senior Representative is an honour that I am very grateful for. The opportunity has given me the chance to learn more about the running of the school, as well as developing my communication and leadership skills. I hope my ever-growing knowledge can contribute to a lasting positive impact on the school and my fellow pupils.
This year, I hope to make the school a better, more welcoming place. By focusing more on student concerns and opinions, I hope to improve our pupil council and create a space where we can make a difference within our small community while raising awareness of other wider issues affecting our area. Our senior leadership team has the potential to build on our current school structure. I believe that as a school we can provide not just an education but a truly supportive community for all young people.
Our school representatives are supported by a team of eight school captains. Our captain this year (from left to right) are:
